Work on the Milton Ulladulla Bypass and duplication of the Princes Highway between Jervis Bay Road and Hawken Road is moving in the right direction, with contracts now signed for specialists to carry out the concept design and environmental assessments.
Both projects are designed to help cut congestion and reduce travel times while improving road safety and freight access.
NSW Minister for the Illawarra and the South Coast Ryan Park said, “This is a big step forward for the Princes Highway upgrade projects that will transform travel along the South Coast.
“With $1.44 billion going towards these two projects, this demonstrates a significant investment in the future of the South Coast, supporting regional growth and better connecting our communities.”
As part of the continued planning for the Milton Ulladulla Bypass, a contract has been awarded to Aurecon Australasia Pty Ltd for the development of the concept design and the environmental assessment, including an Environmental Impact Statement.
The concept design will include confirmation of the design features, such as the lane configuration and intersections connecting to the existing highway. It will also investigate the project’s footprint and boundaries, including local road access during the construction and operation of the bypass.
For the upgrade of the Princes Highway between Jervis Bay Road and Hawken Road, a contract for the concept design and environmental assessment has been has awarded to MRB Technical Services – a joint venture partnership between Mott MacDonald Australia Pty Limited, RPS AAP Consulting Pty Limited and BG&E Pty Limited.
This project will provide two lanes in each direction for six kilometres of the highway between Jervis Bay Road and Hawken Road, separated by a median barrier, as well as an intersection upgrade at Hawken Road, Tomerong.
The concept design phase and environmental assessment process, which includes the preparation of the Review of Environmental Factors, explores the project’s impacts on the surrounding area and proposed mitigation measures for impacts, including flora and fauna, noise and vibration, and First Nations heritage.
Both projects are jointly funded by the Australian and NSW Governments.
The $940 million Milton Ulladulla Bypass includes $752 million in funding from the Australian Government and $188 million from the NSW Government.
Upgrades to the Princes Highway between Jervis Bay and Hawken roads are being delivered with a $500 million investment – $400 million from the Australian Government and $100 million from the NSW Government.
State Member for South Coast Liza Butler added, “Today marks a significant milestone for our region, with contracts now signed to progress the Milton Ulladulla Bypass and the Princes Highway upgrade.
