$2.1M road works to begin on Princes Highway

As of 28 January, $2.1 million worth of upgrades will begin on the Princes Highway in Pambula, New South Wales.

Funded through the Road Safety Program and an overall investment of $518.3 million between the Australian and New South Wales Governments, the works aim to reduce the likelihood and severity of crashes on the road network while also improving travel times.

These improvements, expected to take four months to complete, have been based on significant community feedback regarding local road safety concerns.

In particular, this includes installing a dedicated left turn lane into Acacia Ponds Village from the Princes Highway, improving left turn line marking on the approach to Stringybark Place, improving left and right turn line marking on the approach to Green Point Road and installing both a widened centre line and roadside safety barriers.

State Member for Bega, Michael Holland, commented on the community’s safety concerns.

“We’ve heard the challenges faced to safely navigate the left turn into the village due to high traffic speeds and heavy vehicle volumes on the Princes Highway,” he said.

“We want everyone on our roads to make it to their destinations and return home safely and this investment is a crucial step toward making that a reality.”

Additionally, Federal Member for Eden-Monaro, Kristy McBain, further emphasised the road works’ role in improving the area’s safety conditions.

“This significant investment to deliver these much-needed upgrades for the Princes Highway at Pambula has never been more important, with 2024 recorded as one of the deadliest years on our roads,” she said.

“We are committed to reducing road trauma and making journeys safer for all who live and travel through regional NSW.”

In other news, the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator has introduced new Oversize Overmass trial notices.
