A trailer stolen earlier this week has been found, in good condition and with its load still on board.
Its owner Doug Sproule, who runs Flowers Freightlines in Tahmoor, NSW, told Big Rigs he was thrilled to hear the great news yesterday (February 6) – and thanked the trucking community for getting behind him and helping to spread the word.
A story about the theft that was published on the Big Rigs website was viewed over 50,000 times – and shared more than 50 times on Facebook, with the trucking community rallying behind Doug in the hope of a good outcome.
The custom 41ft Moore trailer and its load, collectively worth around $250,000, were stolen from the Hume Highway in Somerton on Monday, February 3 at about 7.30am.
“It was found thanks to a good Samaritan and a lot of support from the trucking industry,” said Doug.
He says he got a few phones calls on February 6 with tip offs about the trailer’s whereabouts.
“It’s sitting in a holding yard in Melbourne at the moment. Police rang me last night to confirm that it’s there and said we can go and pick it up. I’ll be driving down there myself so I can pick it up tomorrow,” explained Doug.
“I just can’t believe they found it with the load still on it – but they’ve told me to bring straps.
“This trailer is probably a one of its kind – and one of the only 41ft trailers like this Moore has built and it’s fully optioned too so it had everything. I had bought it on finance just before the interest rates went up, so it’s a real sigh of relief!”
