Here at Big Rigs, we love hearing from our loyal readers – but they’re not usually quite as furry as Bella, truckie Glenn Smith’s pure-bred pooch!
Smith sent us a snap of his four-year-old Maltese looking absorbed in our latest issue, and we just had to share it.
“I always pick up Big Rigs when I see it, and I thought Bella looked so intense reading the cover,” he laughed.
“She’s a very intelligent dog.”
Bella was the paw-fect companion for Smith’s runs around Queensland. Image: Glenn SmithIn his last job, the Mackay driver used to bring Bella out in the truck with him, but he sadly can’t bring her along in his current role due to company policy.
“She’s well-travelled, that’s for sure – she used to do 4,000 to 5,000 kilometres a week!” Smith said.
“For three years, she went all over Queensland with me – Townsville, Cairns, Mt Isa, Mossman, Bundaberg…
“We would stay in dog-friendly motels and she was great company.”
Smith said Bella is 100 per cent toilet trained and a great guard dog, even though she only weighs four kilos.
“No-one could get near the truck – if they came and opened the door, she’d attack them!”
Smith hopes Bella will have pups this year – and she’s already got a boyfriend.
“Her boyfriend’s even smaller than her, so they are going to be tiny pups,” he said.
“But because she’s pure bred, the pups are going to be worth about $5,000 each!”
