The National Bulk Tanker Association (NBTA) has announced Arnold Dix as the keynote speaker for Bulk Tanker Day.
Dix has made several contributions to the bulk tanker sector.
His early works improved safety in the dairy industry, leading to a dramatic reduction in truck rollovers while saving lives and laying the foundations for current initiatives including NBTA’s learning from near misses project.
“Arnold is the perfect fit for Bulk Tanker Day,” said NBTA Executive Director, Anthony Germanchev.
“The conference theme is ‘the safest way’ and key issues are tunnel access and safety, which aligns with Arnold’s approach and expertise.
“The NBTA is grateful and excited that Arnold has chosen to share his experiences and knowledge with our members and the audience at Bulk Tanker Day.”
Around his work in the bulk tanker sector, Dix is also known for helping rescue 41 workers from the Silkyara-Barkot tunnel collapse in Uttarakhand, India, last November.
At the time, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese extended his gratitude to Dix for his efforts.
“I rise to acknowledge a truly great Australian, Professor Arnold Dix, for what he has done in once again improving relations between Australia and our great friends in India,” he said.
“Today, because of him and his hard work alongside the Indian authorities, 41 people are alive, safe and free.”
This year, Bulk Tanker Day will take place on Wednesday 15 May in Moonee Valley, Victoria.
