Aurizon executive to lead Pilbara Ports Authority

An accomplished supply chain professional who has built a culture of accountability, resilience and progress at rail freight operator, Aurizon, will soon join the Pilbara Ports Authority hierarchy.

Ports Minister, Rita Saffioti, has named Samuel McSkimming as the new CEO of the Pilbara Ports Authority.

He is currently General Manager of Aurizon New South Wales and Southeast Queensland.

McSkimming will take over from current CEO Roger Johnston, whose term expires on 30 June 2023.

“I want to congratulate Samuel McSkimming on his appointment as CEO of the Pilbara Ports Authority,” said Saffioti.

“The Pilbara Ports Authority play an integral role to the state, national and global economies and Mr McSkimming brings considerable experience to the role, with more than a decade at Aurizon.

“There is a significant amount of work to be delivered at our Pilbara ports, as we look to expand and diversify our exports, and I look forward to working closely with Mr McSkimming as we deliver a number of important projects.

“I’d also like to thank Roger Johnston for guiding the Pilbara Ports Authority for the past 10 years, particularly through the challenges of the Covid pandemic.

“Roger’s leadership and strategic thinking has been integral to the growth of our Pilbara ports, and I wish him all the best for the future.”

Meanwhile, Pilbara Ports Authority delivered a total monthly throughput of 64.2 million tonnes (Mt) for November 2022.

This throughput was a seven per cent increase compared to November 2021.

The Port of Port Hedland achieved a monthly throughput of 48.2Mt, of which 47.6Mt was iron ore exports. This was a 10 per cent increase to total throughput compared to November 2021.

Imports through the Port of Port Hedland totalled 181,000 tonnes, an increase of eight per cent compared to November 2021.

The Port of Dampier delivered a total throughput of 14.9Mt, a one per cent decrease from November 2021.

Imports through the Port of Dampier totalled 114,000 tonnes, an increase of two per cent from November 2021.

In other news, Linfox has installed its biggest solar PV system at a facility in Queensland.
