Aussie Hay Runners returning to SA for largest charity hay run

Aussie Hay Runners (AHR) is heading back to South Australia to complete the biggest hay run in its history.

With the support of the SA Government and Heyfield Lions Club, Aussie Hay Runners is delivering 106 truckloads of premium donated hay bales to help drought affected farmers in the state.

Today and tomorrow, the trucks will begin loading and making their way to Bridgewater, Victoria.

The convoy will then head off early Saturday morning via the Calder Highway bound for Peterborough.

It will travel via Sea Lake, Mildura, Renmark, Morgan and Burra to arrive at the Peterborough Rodeo Grounds where a farmers meet and greet dinner will be held.

From there, the trucks will head in all directions to cover the the 11 local government areas (LGAs) of Adelaide Plains, Ceduna, Elliston, Goyder, Mid Murray, Mount Remarkable, Murray Bridge, Northern Areas, Orroroo Carrieton, Peterborough and Port Wakefield.

They will traverse a total of 218,770 kilometres loaded with 3,630 bales of donated hay valued at over $400,000 – helping over 130 farmers, their families and in turn their communities.

“It’s been a tough year for our South Australian farmers, with many experiencing their driest year on record,” said AHR founder, Linder Widdup.

“We couldn’t be prouder working alongside the South Australian Government and we wish to acknowledge and thank everyone who has been involved in making this run happen.

“As always, our reputation is of utmost importance to us and every single bale is top quality oaten or wheaten hay with the highest nutritional value possible.”

Ahead of AHR’s first run for 2025, participants have been working tirelessly with all levels of the SA Government to bring the tally from 35 truckloads just a few weeks ago to 106.

To date, AHR has completed 44 runs – travelling a total of 3.2 million kilometres across Australia to deliver 51,557 bales of hay.

In other news, the upgraded Prospect Highway has opened, with one of Western Sydney’s notorious bottlenecks for motorists and heavy vehicles now removed.
