Steel distributor, BlueScope Distribution Albury, has increased its steel processing capability and stock holding to better service transport manufacturers.
This follows a $2.2 million investment in the facility.
The Albury site is one of 16 branches in the BlueScope Distribution network that provides steel and aluminium products.
Since its commissioning in February 2022, the Albury beamline has processed more than 2KT of steel for local manufacturers.
BlueScope Distribution Branch Manager, Matthew Maw, said the plasma beamline enables the business to further support local manufacturers and empower them to find the freedom to do what they do best.
The advanced plasma technology coupled with a six-axis robotic arm is the first of its kind for BlueScope Distribution, providing world-class processing for precise steel cutting, specifically for large structural sections which are crucial for transport infrastructure.

“The expansion of our Albury site and the installation of this processing capability enables us to better support our customers long into the future.”
The prime feature and capability of the plasma beamline is its ability to process structural steel products with high accuracy and efficiency, increasing the speed of processing turnaround times.
Processing capabilities include, but are not limited to, cutting irregular shapes, double miter cuts, notching, beam splitting, lightning holes, weld prep and stiffener plate weld cutouts. This investment means our customers simplify their fabrication process with provided material cut ready to be welded or bolted together.
“Recently, our customers told us how difficult it is to find skilled labour and how complex steel supply chains can be, especially when both product and processing of material is required,” said Maw.
“We know steel and we pride ourselves on our technical know-how. It made sense for us to invest in a state-of-the-art steel processing capability which would make life easier for our customers and help streamline the supply chain associated with getting quality processed steel into the region even faster.”
The increased capability of the Albury site allows BlueScope Distribution to provide its local customers with high quality steel processing as well as to continue developing the branch’s footprint in the New South Wales border region. This addition to the site will provide manufacturers with efficiency and flexibility, helping them keep up with market demands and trends, particularly in the transport sector.
In related news, BlueScope Distribution’s extensive product offering is backed by a team completely dedicated to the end customer.
