Recently returned executive, Gary Bone, has been appointed to Vice President, Volvo Trucks Australia.
Bone fills the role vacated earlier in the month by Tony O’Connell who has been promoted to Managing Director of Volvo Trucks Malaysia.
After six years as the Managing Director of farm machinery company, Chesterfield Australia, Bone rejoined Volvo Group in March last year to head up Mack Trucks following the departure of Dean Bestwick.
President and CEO, Volvo Group Australia, Martin Merrick said he was delighted to see Bone back at the helm of the Volvo Trucks brand given the rapidly changing transport environment at the minute.
“We have just launched an amazing new line up of Volvo Trucks onto the Australian market and Gary will be well placed to steer the Volvo brand into a future that will see significant advancement in the next decade,” said Merrick.
With 17 years of experience with Mack and Volvo Group Australia, Bone has held several roles within the group after starting out in retail sales. He enjoyed a two year stint in the US with the Mack brand before assuming the position of Senior Vice President of Mack Trucks Australia in 2005.
In 2009 he was named Vice President of Volvo Trucks Australia, a role that lasted four years before leaving for Chesterfield Australia.
In a statement Bone said he felt privileged to be climbing into the driver’s seat of the Volvo brand at this point in its history.
“Our best range ever is hitting the road this year, our electrification journey has begun and we now have some of the safest, smartest, most connected heavy vehicles on the Australian market with an aftermarket offering second to none,” he said.
“Our strength as Volvo Group Australia is the ability to find the right transport solution for our customers, from medium duty urban distribution to long haul cab-over and conventional.
“Our brands work together to make this happen and our people make the difference. There’s always a special place for the Mack brand in my heart and I look forward to working closely with my successor at Mack to continue to drive innovation and success in the Australian transport industry.”
Bone’s appointment as Volvo Trucks Australia Vice President is effective immediately.
Martin Merrick will act as Vice President, Mack Trucks Australia until the position is filled.
