Call out for truckies to help with toy drive for kids in need

Transport organisation Bean Express and The Mower Supastore in Brendale, Queensland are appealing for truckies to come along to a toy drive for children impacted by domestic violence.

The first annual Twilight Christmas Toy Run will take place on December 7, spreading holiday cheer to those in need.

Chris Doosey, owner/director of Bean Express – which provides support within the local community to organisations that involve volunteers – told Big Rigs that they first had the idea for the toy run last year.

“I’m also the President of the Brisbane Convoy for Kids, and we talked about organising a toy run last year but didn’t end up doing it because I got a bit busy,” he said.

“This year the boys started to run with it and now it’s happening!”

Doosey said there’s been a lot of interest from truckies so far and they are encouraging as many as possible to take part.

“We have a truck meet every six or eight weeks in Brisbane and usually get 30-40 trucks, and I think the majority of them are coming,” he said.

“There’s also a whole load of Kiwi guys who drive trucks and have their own truck club, I think they are going to be part of it as well.

“We’re asking that any truck that comes along, the driver goes to BW or K-Mart and buys a toy to bring with them, unwrapped.

“We want as many trucks and toys as possible.”

Trucks, volunteers and members of the community will meet at the Mower Supastore at 1/245 Leitchs Road at 4pm on December 7, ready for a 5pm departure.

Families are welcome to soak up the festive atmosphere and kids are encouraged to check out the big rigs up close – even climbing in for a look.

If you would like to participate, you can contact Chris Doosey on 0416097907 for more information, or simply turn up on the day.
