A local Cardwell business has opened its doors yet again to truckies and travellers caught out by flooding.
The Cardwell Swimming Pool took to social media this morning to show the true Aussie spirit is alive and well.
June Cotter, who has owned the facility for the past 12 months or so said, “If truckies are stuck, they are welcome to come in for a free shower and a cup of coffee.”
When Big Rigs spoke to her at 11am today (Wednesday March 19), she said the rain had eased up in the town. “We have a little bit of a break from the rain at the moment, but it is raining all around us.”
This is not first the time June has opened her doors to truck drivers during times of need. During the recent floods in mid-February, she welcomed truckies with open arms.
“I was flooded in for the first five days the last time we were flooded here. I couldn’t get out to town. We have such a great community here and had people coming in and dropping off food items to help the truckies,” she said.
While truckies were stranded in the February floods, she even served up hot meals to drivers.
“The truckies are really lovely and they appreciate it – that’s what it’s all about,” said June.
“My nephew is a truckie in Townsville and I hope that if he’s ever stuck somewhere on the road, that someone would be willing to help him too.”
