Celebrate the transport tribe at truck show breakfast

As I near the last season of my life and career, I treasure ever more the people who fill my days.

With the countdown to August and 55 years of hard work, fun, mostly great people,  and the loss of yet another of the old livestock legends in John McLean AKA God,  I have been reflecting on some of the amazing people I’ve worked with and for, and been  mentored by, and the changes we have seen both good and bad over the decades.

Everyone says the mateship has gone from the industry but I have an army of mates stretching back to the 1970s through to present day; we share tall tales and true, keep each other updated on the news of the passing of the old guard and the life milestones such as weddings, children, and achievements of the younger generation.

Through my Chair role with Transport Women Australia Limited, I have had the amazing privilege of leading a community of incredible people, mostly women but some men, who have enjoyed what many newcomers have described as “finding their tribe” because of that sense of belonging.

To see the young people in, or coming into, our industry now gives me a sense of enormous pride in the legacy we have been able to build for them and which they will continue to build for the next generation.

I have had so many opportunities to travel nationally and internationally, to take part in projects and parties that growing up “Back of Bourke” I could never have dreamed of doing.

But the trucking industry has allowed my dreams to come true and to share the positive stories and truths about the industry to a large audience.

With so much unrest in the world today, and it seems so much hatred, we need to remember the important things in life, our family, our friends, our community, and we need to come together in peace and friendship to secure the future of our country and our industry. In our industry and our business, we all want the same things, to be safe, to be treated with respect, to make money, and to go home to our families, every one of us.

The industry offers many opportunities for us to get together with old friends and make new ones.

They are hosted by various industry organisations and one of the major industry events coming up is the Brisbane Truck Show and on its opening morning is the Transport Women Australia Limited truck show breakfast.

We are hoping to have another record-breaking crowd this year. It is always amazing event hosted by our Company Secretary, Coralie Chapman.

We have had incredible speakers over the years, and I am sure 2025 will be more of the same.

We hope to see everyone there before they head into the Truck Show.

Your ticket to the TWAL breakfast includes a pass to the show thanks to HVIA. We are looking forward to another great event.
