Construction in full swing for $3 billion Coomera Connector project

Construction of the Coomera Connector Stage 1 – from Shipper Drive, Coomera to Nerang-Broadbeach Road, Nerang – is in full swing, with work taking place along the length of the corridor.

The $3.026 billion project is jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland governments, and aims to ease congestion and provide an alternative route for growing communities and commercial hubs at Helensvale and Coomera.

Transport and Main Roads (TMR) says Stage 1 of the project stretches 16 kilometres between Coomera and Nerang and is being built across three separate packages – North, Central and South.

The Stage 1 North package, which runs from Shipper Drive, Coomera to Helensvale Road, Helensvale, is nearing completion and expected to open to traffic progressively later this year.

The Stage 1 Central package (Helensvale Road, Helensvale to Smith Street Motorway, Molendinar) has substantial works underway in the Parkwood area. Among the works taking place are the construction of a new bridge over Smith Street, adjacent to Napper Road; and seven new bridge structures for on- and off-ramps for the Coomera Connector and M1 at Smith Street Motorway.

Main construction is also currently underway for the Stage 1 South package, which runs from Smith Street Motorway, Molendinar to Nerang-Broadbeach Road, Nerang.

TMR advises that there will be temporary impacts to residents, motorists and commuters, particularly in the Parkwood area, as well as extensive traffic changes expected along Smith Street, Napper Road, and the Smith Street Motorway.
