Country music veteran and award-winning songwriter Col Finley has released a classic from the vault, “Truck With Wings”, to pay tribute to truckies who have lost their lives on Australian roads.
The song was inspired by a poem given to him by the mother of a friend, Pipey, a truck driver who lost his life on the New England Highway.
The story of “Truck with Wings” originates from the poem, which was read at the funeral service Col attended to bid farewell to another good mate who tragically lost his life while working as a truck driver.
Most of Col’s songs are inspired by powerful stories and harsh realities. He took this poem and created a tribute to a son, a brother, a father, and a friend.
He also offered a more hopeful perspective on a deeply tragic moment, emphasising that while we might have lost another truck driver here on earth, heaven gained another “Truck with Wings” to drive miracles across the skies.
Col believes it’s a story that needs to be heard and a tribute we need to pay and thought it was a fitting time to release the song after another good mate had his name added to a memorial wall.
“I wrote the song hoping it would give some resolve in knowing that they are not just lost but taken for a higher purpose in their “Trucks With Wings”, writes Col on his Facebook page.
