Driver charged after fatal crash with truck in Sydney’s north

A 45-year-old motorist will face court today following a fatal crash with a truck earlier this week in North Ryde in Sydney’s north.

About 1am on (Monday 1 December 2025), emergency services responded to reports of a crash between a red Mitsubishi sedan and a white truck in the east bound lanes of Lane Cove Road.

The passenger in the car – a 38-year-old man – died prior to the arrival of emergency services.

The driver – a 45-year-old man – and another passenger – a 37-year-old woman – in the sedan were trapped in the vehicle until they were released by Fire and Rescue NSW.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated both the man and woman at the scene before they were taken to Royal North Shore Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The truck driver – a 61-year-old man – was uninjured. He was taken to the same hospital for mandatory testing.

A crime scene was established and the Crash Investigation Unit was in attendance.

Following inquiries, officers attached to Ryde Police Area Command with the assistance of Tuggerah Lakes Police District, arrested a 45-year-old man in Toukley, Central Coast, around 4pm yesterday (December 4).

He was taken to Toronto Police Station and charged with aggravated dangerous driving causing death, speeding more than 45km/h over the limit, aggravated dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm, two counts of dangerous driving causing death and one count of negligent driving causing death.

He was also charged with two counts of dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm, one count of negligent driving causing grievous bodily harm, driving too closely behind a vehicle and not giving particulars to police.

His license was suspended and he was refused bail to appear at Bail Division Court 6 on Friday, December 5.
