Fatal truck crash closes southbound lanes of Hume Highway near Gunning

A truck driver has died in a two-truck crash on the Hume Highway near Gunning, NSW, about 35km east of Yass, earlier this morning.

Emergency services were called to the tragic scene at about 1.15am on Thursday, February 13, following reports of a crash.

Officers attached to The Hume Police District attended and found a B-double had left the roadway and rolled, before a second B-double truck travelling behind crashed into the rear.

The male driver of one of the trucks died at the scene, reports NSW Police.

The second driver is in a critical condition.

According to Live Traffic NSW, all southbound traffic up to 26 metres in length has since been diverted to the Federal and Barton Highways.

All other heavy vehicles will be parked up.

As of 7.10am, one of two northbound lanes are also closed (lane 2).

Police have established a crime scene and commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
