The Queensland Government has released the Transforming Queensland Manufacturing Strategy in a bid to help revive the state’s manufacturing industry.
The Transforming Queensland Manufacturing Strategy 2025-2030 and Action Plan, released last week at GLT Trailers in Carole Park, sets out a vision for a stronger, more competitive industry that drives productivity, embraces innovation and gets more Queensland products into the hands of global consumers.
The strategy was developed in collaboration with the Queensland Manufacturing Council and seeks to grow Queensland’s export pathways, build more resilient local supply chains and support workforce upskilling.
Minister for Manufacturing Dale Last said the Manufacturing Strategy marks a turning point for Queensland’s fifth largest industry. “Queensland’s manufacturing sector is a sleeping giant, and we’re determined to awaken its full potential.
“The Transforming Queensland Manufacturing Strategy is about putting manufacturing back at the heart of Queensland’s economy and making sure it never gets left behind again.
“It will drive growth across our traditional strengths like medical, food and beverage and metals manufacturing, while developing Queensland’s capabilities across emerging industries like critical minerals processing.
“Manufacturing already adds $29 billion to our economy and supports 175,000 jobs, including 83,000 in regional Queensland. With the Transforming Queensland Manufacturing Strategy and a Government that backs the sector, those numbers will only grow.”
Queensland Manufacturing Advisory Council member and GLT Trailers CEO Shay Chalmers said the Transforming Queensland Manufacturing Strategy would position the state’s manufacturing sector to seize new opportunities.
“We have some of the world’s leading manufacturers right here in Queensland but it’s important that we have a plan to meet the challenges ahead,” Chalmers said.
“I commend the Queensland Government for working with the sector to produce a Strategy that will help our manufacturers not only grow but innovate.
“The Transforming Queensland Manufacturing Strategy is a launchpad that will position our industry for long-term success.”
