Griffith Corporation Marks Milestone with Special Actros

Queensland trucking operator Griffith Corporation has celebrated the delivery of its 100th Mercedes-Benz Actros model with a special truck.

The 100th Actros to join the Griffith fleet is a special black 2663 Actros 25 Driver edition with a GigaSpace cab included.

With more than 60 prime movers already completing mainly overnight express work, the 100th Actros will follow the other 99 in working for long-term customers such as Tamex, DHL, Mainfreight and Northline with work up and down Australia’s east coast with a few Adelaide and Perth runs.

On top of this, Griffith Corporation also uses eight transporters at race tracks around Australia to move race cars, targa cars and production cars, while also providing exotic vehicle and supercar transport for individual owners.

Daimler Trucks Brisbane delivered the milestone 2663 Actros truck, with the model immediately being put to work pulling the Team Nineteen race transporter that carries the AMG GT of Griffith Corporation raced by CEO Mark Griffith.

The 16-litre, 630hp truck replaces a third-generation black Actros prime mover that was part of the transporter combination of Griffith Corporation that Mark races.

“It came up on the lease deal and Mercedes-Benz had a 25th anniversary Actros,” he says.

“There were only 25 of them, so we thought we should have one of them.”

The special Actros 25 Driver edition comes with unique features like an illuminated Mercedes-Benz logo, Alcoa Dura-Bright wheels, dark chrome highlights, a light-bar with driving lights, stainless steel highlights, leather seats and woodgrain trim.

An optional part is the GigaSpace cab, which includes 2.13 metres of interior height, with three large cupboards also built into the front of the truck cabin.

The 100th milestone highlights the major role that Actros trucks play in Griffith Corporation’s fleet, with the company switching over its models every four years to ensure it always uses the most modern, safest and fuel-efficient models.

Griffith Corporation also uses Daimler Truck Financial Services and its guaranteed buy back program.

“We get a guaranteed future value at four years, so we finance them for four years, then hand them over and get a new one,” Mark says.

“It’s a good thing to know that at the end of the term they are going to give you X amount and you can plan for it.

“When COVID was on, people were giving you more money than what the payout figure was, so we did, but if it is less than that you can just hand it back and walk away.”

Apart from the certainty of knowing how much it will cost, Mark is just happy he doesn’t have to sell the trucks.

“I don’t need to be arguing about the price of a second-hand truck. We are better off doing what we do and let the truck salespeople do what they do,” he says.

Mark says the Actros trucks are excellent on fuel and comfortable. They also come loaded with advanced safety technology including a fully integrated Advanced Emergency Braking System, which uses radars and cameras to perform emergency braking.
