Hay run heroes prepare for big weekend ahead

Need For Feed’s hay runners are hard at work this week, collecting donated hay ahead of their next big run this weekend, which will focus on South Australia’s Murray Mallee and parts of the Mid North.

Trucks will load up in Victoria this Friday, November 1, travelling on the Saturday to the Murray Bridge/ Tailem Bend area, where the team of volunteers will be hosted by the local Lions Clubs.

Deliveries will then make their way to the farmers in need, who have been battling through drought, the following day on Sunday.

This will be Need For Feed’s fifth hay run into South Australia for 2024. “And it won’t be our last,” they said. “We have so many requests for assistance. Plans are already being made for another run before Christmas.”

Need For Feed shared photos of its volunteers out today, collecting B-double and semi loads full of donated hay. “It’s a fantastic effort considering yields are down by 30 per cent this year due to the dry conditions,” they said.
