Kurt Finnerty’s boss has been overwhelmed by the messages of industry support since the young truckie was tragically killed in a driving accident last week.
In a tribute post on his Facebook page last week, Brett Cranston, of Bathurst-based Cranstons Transport, said Kurt was hardworking, loyal, proud of his job and even prouder of his family.
“Our hearts break for Mekaela and their four beautiful kids, including a tiny newborn who arrived just four weeks ago. No family should ever have to face what they’re going through right now,” Cranston said.
“Over the past 24 hours, the messages, calls and offers of support from across the transport industry have been overwhelming.
“This industry cops its fair share of criticism, but when tragedy hits, the trucking community rallies and shows exactly what it’s made of – heart, generosity and people who look after their own.
“We’ve felt that in every single message. To those that have reached out, you have warmed our hearts and know that every message of comfort and support is so very much appreciated.”
Cranston also shared details of a GoFundMe fundraiser set up by Kurt’s sister Kait.
“We need to band together to relieve the financial pressure of this beautiful family as Kurt was the worker of the family the provider so his beautiful partner mekaela could be the awesome home mum to their babies,” Kait wrote.
“Any donation, big or small, to help relieve this pressure for my beautiful brother, sister-in-law and nephews and niece.”
At the time of writing, 298 donations had already raised $34,100 of the $40,000 target.
