Industry Skills Australia (ISA) has launched a new dialogue on the future of Australia’s supply chain workforce, hosting the inaugural Supply Chain Leaders’ Summit at Parliament House.
The event brought together senior industry leaders, government ministers, parliamentarians and representatives from Australia’s national skills system to tackle workforce and skills challenges – setting a strong foundation for building a future-ready supply chain workforce that can meet the demands of a rapidly changing economy.
ISA CEO, Paul Walsh, emphasised the need for long-term collaboration to strengthen Australia’s workforce capabilities for the transport and logistics, rail, aviation and maritime industries.
“The Supply Chain Leaders’ Summit was an important first step in bringing businesses, unions, government and the skills sector together to build the future of our workforce,” he said.
“We face complex challenges, from attraction and retention issues, limited diversity and an ageing workforce to the impact of digitalisation and AI.”
The Future of Work Summit welcomed notable speakers including Federal Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government, Catherine King, and influential industry personnel such as Team Global Express CEO, Christine Holgate.
“This Summit highlighted that the workforce challenges we face in the supply chain sector cannot be solved in isolation,” Holgate said.
“Today, we took a crucial step in uniting leaders from every corner of the industry to build collaborative solutions that respond to digital disruption, evolving business models, and the skills our sector will need in the coming years.”
The summit’s agenda discussed key factors shaping supply chain industries and redefining business models.
More than 150 participants explored critical topics, including emerging workforce priorities, bottlenecks in workforce development and high-impact solutions that industry stakeholders need to see implemented.
