Johnson and Young Cranes deploys new Drake Trailers fleet

Victorian-based mobile crane hire company, Johnson and Young Cranes, has taken delivery of several new trailers from The Drake Group for its heavy haulage operations.

Johnson and Young Cranes is a family-owned and operated transport company specialising in mobile crane hire, consultations, emergency service, plant movement and engineering and transport services.

Established in 2017, the business operates 24 hours a day and seven days a week with services tailored to suit its customers’ requirements.

Just recently, Johnson and Young Cranes obtained a large quantity of trailers from The Drake Group consisting of a 7×8 Steerable with a 3×8 Steerable Attachment and 2×8 Dolly, a 4×4 Widener Extendable with a 2×4 Dolly and a 10×8 Platform.

The new units join a 2021 Drake 5×8 Swingwide and 2×8 Dolly already present in the fleet along with multiple O’Phee drop decks and flat tops.

As a Victorian transporter providing a national service, the new trailers have been deployed in Johnson and Young Cranes’ interstate operations to support its cranes which operate in the renewable energy sector.

Johnson and Young Cranes Director, Brent Young, told Trailer the new Drake trailers play a crucial role in this operation by moving the fleet’s counterweights, fly sections, or in the case of the 10×8 Platform, the cranes themselves.

“As a self-sufficient mobile crane hire company, we take pride in our ability to mobilise our crane fleet quickly, efficiently and independently,” he said.

“Drake’s trailers have proven to be exceptionally effective in handling heavy freight, and they are increasingly utilised in the over-dimensional (OD) and heavy transport sectors.”

According to Young, Drake’s wide range of options – which are tailored to meet the specific needs of its clients – have successfully addressed all of Johnson and Young Crane’s heavy haulage requirements.

“Drake’s long-standing reputation for producing high-quality products aligns with Johnson and Young Cranes’ emphasis on reliability,” he said.

“Our ability to serve our clients effectively depends on the dependability of the products we use, and any failure in this regard is simply unacceptable.”

The latest acquisition from Drake, the 10×8 Platform, boasts several unique features that are particularly advantageous for Johnson and Young Cranes’ operations.

Young explained that its substantial carrying capacity and low deck height allow the company to transport its large crane fleet between sites, thereby minimising wear and tear on machines.

“Additionally, the trailer’s modular design and hydraulic steering enables us to quickly and easily adjust its configuration to suit various loads and navigate complex travel routes efficiently,” he said.

Young said all of the new trailers have met the fleet’s expectations to date, demonstrating reliability and durability.

In addition, he said the support experienced from Drake has displayed its commitment to quality service.

“Given their high-quality, innovative and versatile products along with their proactive customer support, we have established a strong level of trust and confidence in The Drake Group,” Young said.

“All in all, the experience has been a positive one – from the initial sale through to aftersales support, we have found Drake to be an easy supplier to deal with.

“We are hopeful that this positive relationship will continue well into the future.”
