Truck shows took a breather over the festive season, but we’re right back into it this month – with the Koroit Truck Show just around the corner.
Taking place on January 25 in Victoria Park, organiser Richard Allen told Big Rigs that he’s hoping for an excellent turnout again this year.
“Pre-registration has been strong, which is great,” he said.
“But we find that it’s usually on the day that people wake up, look out the window and decide whether or not to come.
“It all comes down to the weather and what mother nature wants to do on the day.
“She can be a terrible woman sometimes, but she’s been good the last few years, so hopefully she’ll be good again.”
Registration for the truck show is priced at $35 for pre-entry, or $40 on the day (open until about 10am).
Winners will be chosen across 16 categories, from Best Restored Vintage to Best Rigid.
You may enter up to three categories, and all participants will also automatically be entered into the “Rig of the Show” category.
As usual, the prize fund is very enticing, with an incredible $40,000 in cash, prizes and trophies up for grabs.
The winner of Rig of the Show will go home with $1000 cash and $2500 in prizes.
“We pride ourselves on our $40,000 in cash, prizes and trophies,” said Allen.
“We give back to the guys who put the effort in and get their truck shined up.
“They are the stars of the show, so they’re rewarded.”
Entrants to this year’s show will most likely face stiff competition from Andrew Derham, whose restored 1989 Mack Valueliner took out the top spot in both 2023 and 2024.
“He’s eligible to win again this year, so we’ll see what happens on the day,” said Allen.
“That particular unit is a testament to Andrew and his family, the way they’ve restored it.
“A few people were commenting about him winning two years in a row – well, bring something better to beat it so!
“Our show is done on point scoring and the numbers don’t lie.”
Andrew Derham came away with Truck of the Show for the second year running in 2024. Image: Graham HarsantTrucks aside, there will be plenty to entertain the whole family on the day, from the popular wood chop to live music to the car and bike show and Factory FMX.
All proceeds from the event will go to Kidney Health Australia.
“The kidney foundation is very close to our hearts because one of our committee members has had a kidney transplant in the last couple of years,” Allen explained.
“He’s a volunteer and we thought, why not give back to the people who have helped out our people?”
Allen encouraged young and old to come along and have fun.
“We really want as many people as possible to come along and enjoy the day.”
