A respected Western Australian transport identity has been made a Member of the Order of Australia.
Craig Smith-Gander, the owner of Kwik Logistics, received the honour in Canberra yesterday as part of the the 2021 Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
Smith-Gander was recognised for his significant service to surf lifesaving, transport logistics and the community.
In addition to his duties at Kwik Logistics where he has also been Managing Director since 2005, Smith-Gander is the Chair of the Western Roads Federation, a position he has held since 2017.
He was also elected to the board member of the Australian Trucking Association last year.
With vast experience straddling both the corporate sector and not-for-profit market governance, Smith-Gander was also the inaugural Chair of Westcycle and the current President of Surf Life Saving Western Australia and board member of Surf Life Saving Australia.
He also has a strong background in engineering, construction and mining, and corporate advisory with both Australian and international investment banks.
A graduate of the Royal Military College Duntroon, Gander-Smith served as an officer in the Australian Regular Army.
“As a member of the ATA board, Craig has applied his immense knowledge and network of contacts to helping the ATA modernise the way we approach governance and industry strategy,” said ATA Chair David Smith.
“Craig is closely involved in the development of our new strategic plan and in our internal initiatives to update our engagement with our member associations. We couldn’t do this work without his expert input.
“Craig is a fantastic recipient of this important honour.”
The Queen’s Birthday 2021 Honours List recognises 1,190 Australians.
