Load limit restrictions announced for bridge at Emu Creek

Effective immediately the Emu Creek bridge on Toowoomba-Karara Road is restricted to one lane at 50km/h for vehicles weighing less than 5 tonnes.

The 5 tonne load limit has been introduced due to safety concerns following extensive damage to the bridge foundations during recent significant rainfall, undermining the load capacity of the bridge.

The load limit will apply until the foundations of the bridge have been reinforced and the abutments repaired, with repairs being carried out as soon as possible.

Signage is installed on Toowoomba-Karara Road north of Felton and south of Cambooya, and on the New England and Cunningham highways, warning heavy vehicles of the 5 tonne load limit and urging drivers to find alternative routes.

Commercial vehicle drivers have been reminded to ensure they’re using up-to-date information when assessing the suitability of their route.
