The Victorian Government has appointed Robert Cameron as the new Chair of WorkSafe Victoria.
Cameron has significant experience in government, legislative reform, board management and stakeholder and community engagement – which the Government said will help strengthen the WorkSafe board.
He has served for more than a decade on a range of Victorian boards, which included his positions as Chairperson of the Boards at Bendigo Health, Coliban Water, Central Victorian Skillshare and Mildura Base Hospital, and as a former member of the boards at Bendigo Emergency Housing, Bendigo Region Alcohol and Drug Service and Bendigo Law Association.
As a former member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly for Bendigo West, Cameron served as a Victorian Government Minister in various portfolios between 1999 and 2010 including WorkCover, Police, Emergency Services, Corrections, Local Government and Agriculture.
Minister for Workplace Safety, Ingrid Stitt, congratulated Cameron on his new appointment.
“I look forward to working with him to keep Victorian workplaces safe and to support injured workers to recover and return to work,” she said.
“Mr Cameron brings with him a wealth of experience which will ensure that the WorkSafe Board has the right leadership and guidance in place to keep supporting Victorian workers, employers and the wider community.”
“I thank Mr John Merritt for his time in the role leading WorkSafe and wish him the best for the future.”
