Leading freight and logistics provider Mondiale VGL has begun construction of a purpose-built distribution and container storage facility in the ASCEND Industrial Estate at Jandakot Airport, Western Australia.
The 16,400 square metre facility at one of the busiest airfields in Australia will comprise warehousing and offices alongside a container-rated hardstand with a storage capacity of more than 700, 20ft equivalent units.
Mondiale VGL Group CEO, Ray Meade, said the facility will bolster Mondiale VGL’s footprint in Australia and strengthen its service offering.
“Our goal is to build a significant global supply chain operation with its roots in the Asia-Pacific region and we are firmly on the path to achieving that, with a strong position across Australia, New Zealand, Asia, Europe, and America,” Meade said.
“The addition of purpose-built distribution and storage facilities in strategic, high-volume locations, like Jandakot Airport, is an important part of our growth strategy and further enhances the connectivity, efficiency and capabilities we provide to our customers.
“Working with developer and estate manager, Dexus, and utilising their industry experience has allowed us to build a warehouse with superior logistic capabilities and increase sustainability measures to support Mondial VGL’s overarching ESG strategy and that of our customers.”
The facility is designed to maximise sustainable production through a focus on initiatives that improve operational and energy efficiency. It contains sustainable features, including a 99kW solar array with a 100kwH battery energy storage system.
Dexus’s head of industrial, Chris Mackenzie, said ASCEND at Jandakot offers customers connectivity that drives efficiency and a competitive advantage for their business.
“Owners Dexus, Dexus Industrial REIT and CBUS are thrilled to be working with Mondiale VGL to deliver a high-quality facility to support their growth needs,” Mackenzie said.
The ASCEND industrial estate is one minute from the Roe Highway, 15 minutes from the Perth CBD, and 20 minutes from Perth Airport and the Fremantle Port, making it a highly strategic location for first, middle, and last-mile distribution customers, said Mondiale VGL.
Current tenants at ASCEND at Jandakot, include Amazon, Kmart, Aldi and Hello Fresh.
The Mondiale VGL facility is expected to be up and running by the middle of next year.
Mondiale VGL, a merger between Mondiale and Visa Global Logistics, has over 1500 staff across 59 offices in New Zealand, Australia, Asia, Europe, and the US, and around 1000 agency offices worldwide.
