NHVR focuses on platform trailer networks in VIC

Victorian platform trailer networks are a priority for the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR).

The NHVR recently announced it is consolidating all Heavy Vehicle Networks (HVN) into a single, self-service application within the Portal.

Initially partnering with the Department of Transport and Planning in Victoria (DTP), the NHVR has reportedly segmented all Victorian networks into specific groups, with an initial focus on platform trailer networks.

“Importing and conflating a network carries considerable complexity, and grouping them in this manner minimises effort, enabling the task to be accomplished more quickly,” the NHVR said in a statement.

“The Victorian platform trailers were broken into four groups, including platform trailers with a dolly, those without a dolly, and low loaders.

“Over the past month, the Spatial Program has loaded these networks into the NHVR’s spatial environment. This is a great win for operators, as the NHVR works to improve the accuracy, consistency and timeliness of route planning for the industry.

“One of the challenges in this work so far has been to ensure any changes to the network conditions are reflected in the NHVR Portal. Again, by working in partnership with DTP road managers, and utilising the network management tools that have been built, amendments will be made by the DTP directly.

“This is a first for the NHVR, with self-service capability for DTP road managers, where previously all changes were managed by a spatial or technology expert.”

In other news, Victorian community groups can apply for the latest round of funding to address local road safety issues according to a statement from the Premier’s office.
