Ollera Creek Bridge reopens to trucks ahead of expected river rises

Ollera Creek Bridge has reopened at around 8pm tonight for freight, supply and emergency vehicles travelling north to Cairns, reports Transport and Main Roads (TMR).

“Priority works to deliver an interim repair solution for Ollera Creek Bridge will be finished tonight, and while future additional work will be required, the opening of the Ollera Creek Bridge has been fast-tracked to facilitate freight movement, prior to expected further flooding impacts north of Ingham in coming days,” said TMR in a statement earlier today.

“Freight, supply and emergency vehicles travelling north from Ingham to Cairns may consider using the window from around 8pm until the Seymour Bridge closes for essential travel.

“Freight, supply and emergency vehicles travelling north will be prioritised because the Bruce Highway at the Seymour River (between Cardwell and Ingham) is forecast to close in the early hours of tomorrow morning (Tuesday) due to flooding; however, this is subject to change.”

TMR said the priority movement of freight, supply and emergency vehicles will be coordinated by Queensland Police.

Tomorrow afternoon (Tuesday) the Ollera Creek Bridge will also open to general traffic.

“Traffic control and speed reductions will remain in place at the Ollera Creek Bridge for the foreseeable future.”

In a post on its Facebook page earlier today, the Queensland Trucking Association wished all the drivers leaving Yabulu heading north to re-stock and re-supply FNQ safe travels.

“Once again, the road freight industry has quickly mobilised, driving 1000s of extra km’s around flooded roads to keep communities supplied,” the post reads.

“Well done to the crews working on the Ollera Creek Bridge to get this happening.”

“Safe travels to Queensland Police Service and who are escorting the massive convoy and the drivers of almost 100 trucks heading north!

“There’s a huge convoy forming now at Andy’s Roadhouse to come south early tomorrow morning.”
