Peak body NatRoad is calling on the Australian industry to have its say in a new survey that aims to capture what the international trucking community is doing to decarbonise.
NatRoad CEO Warren Clark says the Global Green Compact Survey launched by the International Road Transport Union, will help push governments and authorities to establish zero emission infrastructure and enable a fair transition.
‘It’s hard to measure what you can’t see,” Clark said.
“This IRU survey is a logical way to establish what’s happening around the world and how Australia compares. This will give us an excellent benchmark and we can use the information to continue our arguments in favour of better infrastructure and funding initiatives.
“It will also give us the firepower we need to argue that governments must ensure a fair transition so trucking operators can continue to run their businesses while decarbonising their operations.”
Clark said NatRoad supports decarbonisation, but it must be done in a smart and equitable way that won’t leave operators worse off.

The IRU will present the preliminary results of this survey next month and will publish a detailed report early next year.
According to its website, the IRU’s Green Compact is a collective global action to achieve carbon neutrality in commercial road transport by 2050.
The Green Compact outlines a clear roadmap for the industry to meet global decarbonisation goals while “continuing to provide transport services for the people, communities and economies that depend on them”.
