Police find missing truckie Danny Martin ‘alive and well’

NSW Police have found missing truckie Danny Martin “alive and well” not far from his truck parked at the Widgiewa rest area south of Narrandera.

Shortly before 9am today (Thursday, March 6), officers from Murrumbidgee Police District – with the assistance of the SES and VRA – started a search of bushland off the Newell Highway, Morundah.

“He’s been found in the last half hour,” Inspector Jason Dunn told Big Rigs.

“He’s alive and well and is just being taken to hospital for precautionary measures – it’s a good result.

“He’s been out in the elements for a day and a half, but he’s alright.”

Inspector Dunn said it’s too early to reveal why Martin had walked into the nearby bushland, leaving the sleeper air-con running and truck keys in the ignition.

“It could have been for medical [reasons], we don’t know at this stage. It could have been medical, it could have been something else.

“They’ll work that stuff out once they get to the hospital and sort him out.”

Martin’s employer Armesto’s Transport raised the alarm yesterday after Martin spoke to the company’s after-hours manager at 4.30am yesterday but couldn’t be reached after that.

The industry responded with an outpouring of concern and pleas for help on social media.

Martin had been on his usual run from Brisbane to Melbourne at the time of his disappearance.
