Rest areas along Queensland highway praised by truckies

Two rest areas along the Landsborough Highway, which runs between Cloncurry and Winton, have been receiving some good reports from truckies Spy has spoken to.

The entire highway is an important part of the National Highway system linking Darwin and Brisbane and is just over 1000km long.

The distance between Cloncurry and Winton is about 350km and the first decent rest area reported to Spy is 53km along it.

“There is parking space for around six road trains and I stop there often and use the toilet and sit under the shaded area,” a Mount Isa driver said.

The second one is near McKinlay where parts of the first Crocodile Dundee movie were filmed.

It is beside the highway, and also has plenty of space for even the largest rigs to pull in and set up comfortably without needing to unhitch.

Its accessibility directly off the sealed highway makes it an ideal choice for those travelling in trucks.
