Rigs roll up from far and wide for Young Truck Show

Taking place the same weekend as the Clarendon Kenworth Klassic, the Young Big Rigs Truck Show had its work cut out for it this year.

But the organisers still managed to rustle up a display of 30 modern and vintage trucks, putting together a great day out for the community.

Organiser Donald Bushby told Big Rigs: “We had trucks that came from Wagga, Albert Park, Wollongong, Cootamundra…All around!

“We had a 1988 S-Line International and Jimmy Cool from the TV show Heavy Tow Truckers Down Under brought his wrecker and big rotator.

“He’s been coming for the last two years, he’s been really good.”

This year was the third iteration of the truck show, which takes place as part of a broader event organised by the Young Pastoral and Agricultural Association.

“The truck show is at the main ring and then the crowd can wander around and see the side shows, the pavilions, the cattle, the sheep, and everything else that’s going on,” Bushby explained.

“Thompsons Livestock brought their big semi with the livestock, and they had the ramp down so the kids could go up and look in the back.

He added, laughing: “I think some of the parents wanted to leave the kids in the crates permanently.”

The show also featured cars and bikes, with the latter coming from as far as Gilgandra and Canberra.

Bushby said there were some great prizes on offer, from cash to driving lights to oil and bags from Kenworth and Mack.

“One bloke nearly fell out of his truck when he won – he didn’t realise there was a cash prize,” he added.

He said that the Clarendon Classic is tough to compete with, and the date of the Young Show may be changed in future.

“We changed the date of the show this year and we thought we’d get away from them, then they were back on the same day as us,” he said.

“We do lose some trucks to them. We might try to change the date again next year, but I’ll be retiring so we’ll need someone else to take over!”
