Safety upgrades to two key Gippsland routes

A range of safety upgrades that include sealing shoulders, side-road entries and vehicle pull-over areas, line marking and signage improvements will occur along major routes in Gippsland.

A $9.26 million package of works will see 27 kilometres of Moe-Glengarry Road between Newborough and Glengarry and 21 kilometres of Main-Neerim Road between Rokeby and Noojee upgraded.

Main-Neerim Road will also have upgraded safety barriers and a lowered speed limit of 80 km/h between Old Sale Road in Drouin West and Bloomfield Road in Crossover, while Moe-Glengarry Road will have new safety barriers installed.

These works aim to improve safety by reducing the risk and severity of crashes, improve traction by removing dirt and gravel on the road, and help drivers stay in control if their vehicle leaves the road.

Minister for Regional Development and Local Government, Kristy McBain MP said, “Knowing the history of these roads, it’s our absolute priority to build and update infrastructure that prevents serious crashes and supports the people who rely on these key routes every day, as well as visitors to this beautiful region.”

Both roads provide key links for local community industries accessing essential services, including farmland, the Yallourn Power Station and tourists accessing the alpine resort township of Mount Baw Baw.

Temporary lane closures and reduced speed limits will be in place as drivers travel though the construction areas.
