Section of Calder Freeway to close to traffic as filming takes place

A section of the Calder Freeway in Victoria will be closed to traffic between Melbourne and Bendigo next week, as third-party filming takes place along the freeway and its surrounding roads.

While details have not been released about what sort of filming will take place, Transport Victoria says the closures are required to ensure the safety of both the travelling public and the film crew.

Closures will be in place between Malmsbury and Harcourt from 6am-10pm on Tuesday, February 18, 2025.

“Drivers are asked to allow up to 30 minutes extra travel time for the detour via the Calder Highway and Harmony Way through Elphinstone,” said Transport Victoria.

Detour signs and traffic management will direct northbound traffic onto the Calder Highway at Malmsbury, and southbound traffic onto Fogartys Gap Road, Harcourt.

Heading south on the Calder Freeway, exit the freeway at Fogartys Gap Road, follow detours to Harmony Way and the Calder Highway, returning to the Calder Freeway at Malmsbury.

Heading north on the Calder Freeway, vehicles will need to exit at Malmsbury, following the detour on the Calder Highway to Harcourt.

Those heading to Castlemaine can turn left at Victoria Road. Vehicles over 4.1 metres should travel via Coolstore Road and then Blackjack Road.

The Pyrenees Highway/ Bendigo-Sutton Grange Road will also be closed from Harmony Way to Sutton Grange (Sutton Grange-Redesdale Road) during this time. Access to local properties will be maintained.

Access will be maintained for emergency vehicles, while oversize vehicles will be escorted through the closure, if required.

“Please follow the road closure signs and directions from traffic management. There will be no viewing opportunities, so please ensure you do not stop on the freeway for everyone’s safety,” said Transport Victoria.
