Construction will start on a new state-of-the-art truck wash at the Euroa saleyards in north-east Victoria in early July.
The project, valued at $642,000, was awarded at the Strathbogie Shire Council’s May meeting to Miepol Pty Ltd, a company based in Geelong, after a lengthy search.
The council undertook four competitive tenders for the project, refining the design each time to align with the approved budget.
Administrator Peter Stephenson acknowledged the concerted efforts of council officers and the Euroa saleyard committee in making this double bay truck wash a reality.
“This truck wash will have so many benefits for our truck owners, so I am pleased to see it under construction,” Stephenson said.
The project received a significant financial boost with $165,000 allocated by the council, supported by funding from the federal fovernment’s drought dommunities program in 2020.
Project details and benefits
Double bay design: The new truck wash will feature a drive-through double bay, catering to B-double trucks. This design is expected to expedite the washing process significantly, eliminating the need for drivers to reverse their long trucks in and out, as required by the old facility.
Community and environmental benefits: The improved truck wash addresses modern necessities and is anticipated to benefit the stock carrying community and local truck owners. It is also expected to attract more livestock carriers to Euroa, who need to wash down their trucks to meet biodiversity requirements.
Access
Access restrictions: Users of the facilities are recommended to access the facilities from Graham Street, Sutherland Street and Euroa-Shepparton Road to avoid the construction area, with users advised to consider potential delays when accessing the saleyards via Boundary Road North. Contractors will limit restrictions on sale days and the day preceding sale day to try and limit the disruption at these times.
