Superload movement to take place across Melbourne

An oversize transport operation will be taking place throughout Melbourne next week.

A very large generator will be transported on an oversized vehicle measuring approximately 125 metres long and 6.5 metres wide from Port of Melbourne to Yarragon over four nights.

The transport operation will begin at 10pm on Monday 3 February and will be guided by a group of escort vehicles and co-pilots travelling in front and behind the vehicle at night to reduce the impact on the road network.

The oversize vehicle is planned to arrive at a park up location in Clayton South before resuming at 11pm on Tuesday 4 February to a park up location in Berwick.

The third night of operation will begin at 11pm on Wednesday 5 February from Berwick to travel to Yarragon.

The vehicle will continue its journey at 11pm on Thursday 6 February to arrive at its final destination at Loy Yang Power Station.

The transport operation will travel at speeds of 25km/h on average, and there will be times where the convoy will need to slow to speeds of around five km/h when travelling over bridges or around corners.

There will also be a road closure on Beaconsfield Parade and The Esplanade, St Kilda, Princes Highway East over Eumemmerring Creek, Princes Highway from Hinrichsen Drive to Narre Warren North Road, and Princes Highway between Buln Buln Road and Marretts Road to accommodate the transport travelling on the wrong side of the road.

With the operation set to travel at significantly reduced speeds, Transport Victoria is urging drivers to take care.

“Please plan your journey in advance and allow extra time,” Transport Victoria said.

“There will be opportunities to pass the under supervision in some locations.

“This is a complex operation and for everyone’s safety, stay well clear when the load is in transit and when parked.

“If you need to travel during the time the transport is on the road, plan ahead or seek an alternate route to avoid delays.”
