TMR issues alert for South East Queensland as Cyclone Alfred approaches

As South East Queensland prepares for Cyclone Alfred to make landfall, Transport and Main Roads Queensland (TMR) has issued advice for heavy vehicle operators.

TMR is advising road freight operators who need to travel to central or Northern Queensland from southern states to use the Inland Freight Route (Mungindi to Charters Towers), which remains open (as per map above).

“The Department of Transport and Main Roads advises all heavy vehicle operators to exercise caution when travelling as Tropical Cyclone Alfred approaches and during the recovery period, due to the forecast of potential high wind speeds and flooding,” TMR said in an alert issued this afternoon.

“TMR recommends that heavy vehicle operators drive to the conditions, as road conditions in South East Queensland (SEQ) are expected to deteriorate today, with increasing rainfall and stronger winds.”

Numerous road closures are currently already in place, along with traffic signal and power outages on both state-controlled roads and council roads due to flooding, road damage and hazards associated with Cyclone Alfred.
