Toll Group wins Clean Transport Award

Toll Group has been awarded the Clean Transport at the inaugural Supply Chain Excellence Awards APAC, held in Singapore last week, on September 30.

The award was received for Toll’s leadership in sustainable logistics and its “transformative approach to decarbonising freight transport across Australia”.

The Supply Chain Excellence Awards have been running for nearly 30 years. The APAC edition marks the programme’s expansion into the Asia-Pacific region.

There were 50 entries from 44 companies shortlisted across 14 categories.

Toll’s winning initiative, the largest deployment of battery electric heavy vehicles (BEVs) in Australia’s third-party logistics sector, includes:

28 battery electric trucks rolled out across multiple states

31 charging ports installed at 10 sites

AU$67 million investment, supported by AU$9 million in co-funding from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA).

“This recognition highlights what’s possible when government, industry, and customers come together with a shared commitment to sustainability. Through collaboration, we’ve accelerated the transition to cleaner transport and demonstrated the impact of collective action,” said Nureen Shariff, Head of Sustainability Transformation at Toll Group.

The project aims to deliver:

Estimated 1810 tonnes of CO abated annually

Reduced noise and air pollution in urban areas

Support for customer Scope 3 emissions reporting

Operational efficiency gains and future-proofing against fuel volatility

Toll’s initiative includes co-designed vehicle integration with six major customers, site infrastructure upgrades in partnership with energy providers, workforce training and change management programs, and academic collaboration to share learnings across the industry.

“This award gives recognition to the scale of Toll’s first BEV rollout comprising six customers across three states and ten sites, along with the complexity we’ve navigated as a team from the initial design phase to operational implementation,” said Shaun O’Flaherty, Toll’s Head of Products & Solutions.

The Clean Transport Award celebrates organisations driving meaningful change in emissions reduction. Toll’s win underscores its role as a sustainability leader in the logistics sector.

The delivery forms part of Toll’s AU$67 million investment in battery electric heavy vehicles and charging infrastructure, co-funded with the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) through its ‘Driving the Nation’ program.

“This recognition is a proud moment for our entire team,” said Anna Green, Chief Commercial and Sustainability Officer at Toll Group. “It reflects the scale of our ambition and the depth of collaboration across our business, our customers, and our partners. We’re committed to accelerating the transition to net-zero logistics, and this award affirms we’re on the right path.”

Toll Group said it is honoured to be recognised among the region’s most innovative and impactful supply chain leaders. “The award reflects our shared commitment, with customers, partners, government, and sustainability stakeholders, to accelerate the transition to net-zero logistics.”
