Transport regulators confirmed for VTA State Conference

Two members of Australia’s key national regulatory bodies for the transport industry will deliver important updates at State Conference 2024.

The Victorian Transport Association (VTA) has confirmed that National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) CEO, Sal Petroccitto, and members of his team will be attending State Conference 2024 to provide important operational and safety information.

“Access, safety and enforcement are always critical issues for freight operators and it’s terrific to have Sal on the agenda to outline the NHVR’s priorities for the year ahead,” said VTA CEO, Peter Anderson.

“It’s been a busy few years for the NHVR with additional states and territories falling under its remit.

“In the six states and territories where the HVNL applies, there are more than 114,000 registered prime movers, one million registered heavy vehicle units, and 269,000 registered operators.”

Anderson also revealed that National Transport Commission (NTC) CEO, Michael Hopkins, will be present.

“I’m thrilled that he’s accepted our invitation to attend and address the conference during our focussed safety session on day two, which will also examine the growing importance and necessity of operators making Environment, Safety, and Governance (ESG) a priority for directors, management and staff,” he said.

Last week, the VTA announced that the fast-emerging commercial threat of cyber security will be addressed by a keynote speaker at State Conference 2024.

In other news, construction of the Albany Ring Road in Western Australia has entered its final stages, and is on track to be completed and open to road users before the middle of the year.
