Truck driver, 29, dies in hospital after Bruce Highway crash at Gindoran

A 29-year-old truck driver has tragically died in hospital overnight after the truck he was driving was involved in a multi-vehicle traffic crash at Gindoran on the Bruce Highway on Tuesday morning, August 27.

Initial Queensland Police investigations indicate that at approximately 1.50am on August 27, a truck crashed near Granite Creek Forestry Road.

A heavy vehicle travelling in the opposite direction slowed to assist with that crash and was struck from behind by a number of trucks.

The driver of the first truck that collided with the assisting heavy vehicle from behind sustained critical injuries.

He was initially transported to the Gladstone Base Hospital in a critical condition before being airlifted to the Royal Brisbane Hospital where he died last night from his injuries.

Two paramedic units travelling to the scene were also involved in a crash at the scene.

Both paramedics received minor injuries but were able to continue to manage the scene and treat patients before being assessed at hospital later in the morning.

The Rockhampton Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and is appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the crash or may have relevant dashcam footage to come forward.

Queensland Trucking Association CEO Gary Mahon told members today that this tragic accident is one of far too many that have occured on the road that is a national highway and national freight route.

The QTA has joined the RACQ “Fix the Bruce” election campaign to increase pressure on both the State and Federal Government to commit long term funding to upgrade this critical road infrastructure. It’s time,” Mahon said.

“Leading up to the state election in October, we will continue to advocate for increased road and bridge infrastructure investment to improve the efficiency, productivity and safety for the road freight industry.”
