NSW Police have charged a truck driver following a serious crash in the Riverina last year.
Emergency services were called to the Olympic Highway, The Rock, 32km southwest of Wagga Wagga, just after 1pm on July 3, 2024, following reports of a crash.
Officers attached to Riverina Police District arrived to find a Hino truck and a Freightliner truck had collided.
The driver of the Freightliner, a 56-year-old man, was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being airlifted to Canberra Hospital in a serious condition. The driver remains in hospital.
The driver of the Hino, also a 56-year-old man, was airlifted to the same hospital in a critical condition. He has since been released.
A crime scene was established, and officers attached to the Crash Investigation Unit commenced an investigation into the cause of the crash.
Following extensive inquiries, the Hino driver was arrested at Albury Police Station on Saturday, January 4, and charged with dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, drive manner dangerous and negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm.
The man was granted conditional bail to appear before Albury Local Court on Wednesday, March 5.
