The NSW Government is refining plans for safety upgrades on the Bruxner Highway between Lismore and Ballina and has invited the community to have its say on the proposed measures.
In 2021 Transport for NSW (TfNSW) engaged in early consultation with the Alstonville community, and in May 2024 a report summarising community feedback was released.
TfNSW says community feedback during the early consultation process has been used to inform a Review of Environmental Factors (REF), which is now on public display and open for further feedback.
Transport for NSW North Region Director, Anna Zycki, said key features of the proposal include a new westbound on-ramp from Ellis Road to the Bruxner Highway at Alstonville.
The proposal also includes a new T-intersection on Ellis Road about 700 metres north-west of the intersection of Ellis and Wardell roads.
“This includes a dedicated right-turn lane to the new ramp. Minor adjustments are proposed to driveway accesses on Ellis Road near the new intersection,” Zycki said.
“We are removing the right-turn lane out of Ballina Road and providing dedicated right- and left-turns into Ballina Road from the Bruxner Highway.
“It’s proposed that the left-turn from Ballina Road onto the Bruxner Highway is maintained.”
Minor associated works will include drainage adjustments, new line marking and signage, relocating power poles and some other utilities, and the rehabilitation of disturbed areas following construction.
“We thank the community for its valuable feedback in the early stages of consultation and encourage people to provide further feedback on the REF so designs can be finalised,” Zycki added.
Submissions close on Sunday April 27 and can be made here.
The project team will be available at drop-in information sessions being held on Thursday April 10 at the Anglican Church Hall, Daley Street, Alstonville from noon-2pm and 4pm-6pm.
A submissions report summarising the feedback received will be available on the project website before the start of construction.
Construction is planned to start mid-2025 and be completed by mid-2026.
