Upcoming Burnley Tunnel lane closures

There will be upcoming lane closures in Melbourne’s Burley Tunnel from this weekend to allow for the replacement of low voltage cables.

“Our tunnels need a reliable power supply to operate the freeway management system that helps drivers travel safely, connects to our control room where we have eyes on the road 24/7 and turns on emergency equipment should it ever be needed,” Linkt said in a news release.

Beginning Sunday May 4, 2025, two lanes will be closed in the Burnley Tunnel from Sunday to Thursday nights over the coming months.

As work is carried out, there will be times when full tunnel closures are needed.

Heavy vehicles including livestock trucks can continue to drive through the tunnel provided they are below the height clearance of 4.65 metres.

Livestock trucks have been able to access both the Burnley and Domain tunnels, as part of a 12-month trial that began on January 1 this year.
