As the West Gate Tunnel Project enters its final stages of works before it opens at the end of 2025, there will be a number of closures in place.
From February 22 until late March, major surfacing works will begin on the West Gate Freeway between Millers Road and the West Gate Bridge. During this time, the citybound entry ramps at Grieve Parade and Millers Road; and Williamstown Road citybound exit ramp will be closed 24/7.
The West Gate Freeway is also reduced from four to three lanes from now until late March in the citybound direction
Motorists should allow up to 30 mins extra travel time, with signed detours in place.
Victoria’s Big Build advises:
As you’re approaching the West Gate Freeway heading to the city, follow signs on the M80 Ring Road or Princes Freeway. Get into the lane you need before you reach the interchange.
The far right lanes on West Gate Freeway will take you straight to the West Gate Bridge and city south.
If you need to exit West Gate Freeway before the bridge, use the far left lanes and follow the signs that say “West Gate exits”.
Keep in mind, the Williamstown Road exit ramp will be closed from February 22, so exit early at Millers Road to get to inner west suburbs.
