Upcoming overnight closure on Gwydir Highway

There will be an overnight closure on Gwydir Highway at Jackadgery Bridge this weekend, to allow for ongoing essential bridge maintenance work that started in late-January.

The bridge will be closed to all traffic from 6pm Friday March 21 to 6am Saturday March 22 to carry out essential repairs.

Transport for NSW (TfNSW) says the full closure is required to allow concrete to cure and reach minimum strength before carrying vehicles. Access will however remain for emergency services.

Vehicles travelling north will be detoured via Clarence Way and the Bruxner Highway to the New England Highway. Vehicles travelling south will be detoured via the Pacific Highway and Waterfall Way to the New England Highway.

“It is recommended that operators of all vehicles, including oversize and/or overmass vehicles (OSOM), plan their trip in advance to avoid these closure times as detour routes will be significant,” TfNSW said.

“Detour routes via minor roads are possible, however it may not be appropriate for OSOM or larger vehicles.”

The bridge will reopen to light vehicles only at 6am on Saturday March 22. Heavy vehicles over 4.5 tonne will need to wait until 9am Saturday March 22 to access the bridge.

The bridge will operate under single lane closures with alternating stop/slow arrangements and a 40km/h speed limit, weather permitting.

A second overnight bridge closure will be carried out in early May, with more information issued closer to the date.
