Urgent need for truckies’ rest area along busy Queensland road

Another rest area is urgently required for use by truck drivers along the Charters Towers to Clermont stretch of the Gregory Development Road in north Queensland.

This is an SOS from many drivers Spy has spoken to, who frequently drive the boring route.

There are only two decent rest areas on the 370km stretch at Cape River and Frankfield.

The Cape River rest area has toilets and a shaded area and is near the Charters Towers end of the highway.

The other decent one is 80km from Clermont at the opposite end.

The only other place trucks can stop safely is at Belyando Roadhouse which is about halfway between the towns.

There are plenty of pull off areas but these are mostly beside rough shoulders.
