Chris Binks has been with Geoff Richards Transport
for 16 years.
A flashy Kenworth T909 driven by veteran truckie Chris Binks is often referred to as the Yellow Submarine.
Not surprising as its bright colour stands out likes dog’s you know what.
Based in Brisbane, 72-year-old Chris has driven for Geoff Richards Transport for 16 years.
“I brought up Ipec material from Brisbane to Cairns and have to pick up produce near Gumlu for the southern markets,” he said.
Community minded Chris has been a truckie for more than five decades and is looking forward to participating in the upcoming Brisbane Convoy for Kids.
“I was in it last year and it is a great cause,” he said.
Chris likes the BP Cluden Roadhouse because he says it has good facilities such as clean showers and a comfortable room for truckies.
He added that more rest areas are needed for truckies only, and like many other drivers says they are often packed up with vans.
But he did say there was a good one at Waverley Creek between Rockhampton and Sarina.
I asked Chris his hobbies outside of work and he said he likes relaxing at home, which include lots of time in his spa.
“I also like eating fresh fish such as red emperor and mackerel cooked on the barbecue. Also I enjoy gardening,” he said.
Whilst on the road Chris often takes along meals which he stores in his fridge and cooks in the microwave or his small gas cooker.
His favourite football team is the WA based West Coast Eagles in the AFL.
Even though they finished down the bottom in the 2024 season, Chris said success goes in cycles and they will
improve.
