Victoria Big Build boss resigns

Director General of the Major Transport Infrastructure Authority, Corey Hannett, has informed the Victorian Government of his decision to seek a new career challenge.

Since the election of the Labor Government in 2014, Hannett has overseen a construction blitz across Victoria.

Hannett was responsible for leading the Big Build as it grew from the removal of 50 level crossings to now 110 by 2030, the construction of the Metro Tunnel and a $100 billion pipeline of transport projects across Victoria.

“It’s been the greatest privilege of my career to lead Victoria’s Major Transport Infrastructure Authority for the past eight years in the delivery of the Big Build,” Hannett said in a statement.

“I will miss working alongside the passionate and dedicated team at MTIA, as well as our construction partners, but the time is right for me to look for new opportunities.

“It’s been a very busy and challenging eight years in this high profile and demanding role.”

Victorian Premier, Daniel Andrews, thanked Hannett for his commitment over the years.

“Since we were elected in 2014, Corey has led the historic Big Build program of works that has transformed the state and created tens of thousands of jobs,” he said.

“Corey’s passion for the sustainability of the construction sector, and the safety of workers on the ground, have been hallmarks of his leadership and I thank him and wish him, and his family well for the future.”

Hannett will be replaced by Kevin Devlin, current CEO of the Level Crossing Removal Project.

Devlin has worked alongside Hannett on the delivery of Victoria’s Big Build over the past eight years and is uniquely placed to ensure the ongoing success of the program.

Devlin will start as Director General following Hannett’s departure in late March, allowing time for a seamless transition and the opportunity to move quickly to fill his role at the Level Crossing Removal Project.
