Neil Mansell Transport’s triple road train promoting free mental health service, Head to Health, has hit the road for its maiden run, reminding people that free mental health support is available even in the most remote parts of the country.
The truck curtains feature the details of the new Western Queensland Head to Health service, designed to help outback residents find the mental health support they need either locally or via telehealth. This service is also available Australia wide.
Owner of Neil Mansell Transport, Neil Mansell, has been in the transport industry for over 40 years and employs more than 700 people. He says the majority of those people work in remote and isolated conditions.
“They spend days, if not weeks on end just living in their truck, very isolated, and that can have an effect on some people,” he said.
“We’re proud to be associated with Head to Health, to let people know that there is help there for them when they’re not feeling themselves.”
Driven by Brian Clothier, the eye-catching Head to Health trailers are pulled by a Western Star prime mover. They travel the 3400-kilometre journey from Toowoomba, picking up the third trailer and Roma, then running through regional outback Queensland and on to Darwin.
As RHealth general manager Michelle Sieders explained, “It’s an unusual way to carry a mental health message using a trucking company. I think the thing that surprised me the most was that we thought it was a cool idea in our office but to find out that people in the industry actually thought this was a great idea as well is the real reason it came together.
“People living in the bush often do it tougher than people living in our cities – and this a great way to get that message out there, that they’re supported and they have options available to them.”
Tony O’Toole, from men’s mental health charity Mongrels Men, added: “A lot of people out here, they need that reminder, that trigger, that mental health is important. And to have trucks like this running up and down the highway with that sort of message on it, is just great.
“Even when you go into the pubs and you talk to the guys, it’s very much something they really don’t want to talk about, so you’ve got to start on another topic and work your way in.”
